Key Comic #2: Flash #117

Flash #117

Flash #117

I knew was going to pick a DC comic this time around, and had a couple of ideas rolling around about which one. I kept returning back to this one, just like the namesake of the character on the cover.

With the recent hit series The Flash on television, there has been increased interest in the Flash series, and especially some of the early keys.

The Flash “Rogues” villains has one of the best set of villains for a comic character in all of comics, possibly just below only Batman’s and Spider-man’s when it comes to arch nemeses. The Flash goes against some truly great foes: Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Mirror Master, Trickster, Reverse Flash, Heat Wave, Captain Boomerang, and the list goes on.

This comic is the first appearance of Captain Boomerang. Even though he seems like a one-trick throwaway one-dimensional gimmick villain, Capt. Boomerang has returned time and time again to vex the Flash, definitely a major villain in the Flash’s great Rogue’s gallery.captain_boomerang

Also he has been a major player in the Suicide Squad. He will be played by Jai Courtney in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie that is filming now.

I have been trying to fill this comic in my Flash collection for about 6 months now. It is a very hard book to find at a decent price. Doesn’t help that it is an early key issue at the start of the Silver Age Flash run. All of the issues I have come across are either lower grade condition, or way over-priced. The hunt for me continues on this on, but rest assured that it is high on my want list of issues I am hunting for.

Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #44 (2014) has the NM of this comic at $950. I still think that this book is a good investment and will continue to grow in the future. The value has increased $25.00 (3%) since the year before, and overall an increase of $680.00 (35%) since 1999.

Updated 07/21/2015: Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #45 (2015) NearMint is $1,000.00, the value has increased $50 (5%) since the year before, and overall an increase of $730.00 (37%) since 1999.

Okay, so let’s go slightly Desert Island disks, all of you (individually of corsue) are going to trapped on an island for the rest of your life. Knowing this you are allowed to take three luxury items with you, there are two conditions they cannot be used for escape nor can they be other people. Also on a podcast 24 related note, I can’t believe Joel hates Booster Gold, yeah he’s not the most fantastic superhero ever but he is good fun and has had some pretty good storylines and the current incarnation of him as a time travelling agent of order is really fun.p.s. please keep up the comic.
